I didn't go to the Expo, so what I know about the new Apple products is what I've seen on the web. I've looked at Apple's website to see what everyone on the MacAddict forums is talking about.

So I didn't see everything in real life...but surprise, surprise! I have comments to make anyway!

The cube: Basically, I don't understand it. Granted, it's a great design; it's absolutely gorgeous. It would be neat to have a computer smaller than my CD-ROM rack. But it seems pretty expensive for what you get. A few hundred dollars more and you have the expandability and the dual processors of the higher end towers. If I had money to burn, it would be cool. But I don't.

The tower: Multi-processors and gigabit Ethernet just sound damn cool. So there isn't really any use for them yet. The Ethernet is backwards compatible I'm sure, and having it saves the annoyance of having to buy a new card when it becomes more of a standard. The multi-processors will be more useful when Mac OS X comes out (and heck, LinuxPPC users can take advantage of the MPs now!), but for now they'll keep your house warm :-).

The iMacs: Those are the colors they should have started out with! Well, at least sage and ruby. Yes, I like indigo, but I like blueberry too. The colors aside, I think they may have confused the product line some. I thought the three-level line was perfect. Now, in my opinion, there are too many DVs. What's even more confusing, to me anyway, despite the fact that DV actually stands for "digital video" (making it, not watching it), I'd expect a DV model to come with a DVD-ROM drive, but the plain DV comes with just a CD-ROM drive! To get a DVD drive, you have to get the DV plus or the DV SE. Okay, to keep costs down they really can't put a DVD drive in a $1000 computer...or maybe they can. Either way, the line isn't as straightforward as it could be, or as it once was.
